This 7th Academy Award event was the most talked about in the past 5 years.
Everything left the academy’s hands as soon as the nominations were announced this January 2025.
Including the famous old tweets from Karla Sofia Gascon and the apologies from Fernanda Torres for a blackface character, she played many years ago in Brazil.
But there was one movie that at the beginning felt far from winning but that yesterday took home five out of 6 Oscars nominations, taking home the most important one, Best Picture: Anora, a truly unexpected triumph.

“Anora” is a notable film that combines romance, comedy, and drama. It is all set to release independently in 2024.
The movie’s Sean Baker is adept at screenwriting and direction as he is and his edit.
Baker is noted for his unconventional and narrative-focused films; Sean brings forth the exploits of Anora Mikheeva, whose erratic decision to marry a Russian oligarch’s son sets off a whirlwind series of events in her life.
Anora epitomizes romance, chaos, and self-discovery at the same time. Her character is played by Mikey Madison, who, together with Mark Eydelshteyn, puts forth a spectacular performance.
How Mark portrays the oligarch’s son adds complexity to Anora’s story.
‘Anora’ reveals the beauty of bold decisions and makes the viewer ponder the world’s unexpected turns, evoking a deep sense of connection and empathy.
The film’s storyline and the performances depict the beauty and heart of Independent cinema, inspiring a newfound appreciation for the art form.
This film proves that the windows broken by independent cinema will never close again.
The movie is beautiful and well made, and the interpretation of Mikey Madison was so poignant and detailed that the Oscar for Best Actress in Leading Role comes easily.

In a recent interview, she said: “I did all the stunts. Yer and I did those together, and we’re just scrapping with each other. And so, of course, it felt real because part of it was real.”
Something you can feel from the beginning of it.
The film is the most significant success of Baker’s career. It had a $6 million budget and has earned over $40 million at the box officer.

In his speech last night, Baker said: “I want to thank the sex worker community. They have shared their stories. They have shared their life experience with me over the years. My deepest respect. Thank you — I share this with you.”
Anora took home the prestigious Palme d’Or at Cannes, marking Sean Baker as the first American director since Terrence Malick in 2011 to win the festival’s highest honour.
And the recent BAFTA for Best Actress in a Leading Role for Mikey Madison.
For a neurodivergent person, this can either be a great movie or a triggering one. For me is a 5 stars movie, a must watch. But here is our Emotional Divergent tracker:
