I’m Ivan, the main editor of Divergent Beats — and I’m Brazilian. So when AFIM dropped, I didn’t just listen to it this morning — I allowed myself to feel it. I sat with it intentionally, not just as a music critic or culture journalist, but as someone who needed to go back to his roots for a moment. And this album brought me there.
It brought me back to the sound of my people, the rhythm of Rio, the poetry of being soft in a loud world. It reminded me of those slow Sunday mornings with loved ones, of dancing barefoot on a warm tiled floor, of stories told through music — honest, emotional, and rooted in something real.
From the first track, Infinito em nós, Zé sets the tone for a kind of emotional intimacy that’s rare in today’s sonic landscape. AFIM is orchestral, jazzy, and filled with the spirit of MPB — but it’s also incredibly modern in the way it handles vulnerability. It doesn’t just sound Brazilian. It feels like Brazil. And it feels like now.
Tracks like Essa Confusão (featuring Dora Morelenbaum) and Segredo are standout gems. But for me, Transe hit different. The way Jaques Morelenbaum’s strings layer with Zé’s haunting vocals? It’s pure, cinematic alchemy.
And the visuals? From the cover art alone, you already know it’s going to be thoughtful. It’s warm, textured, and artistic — the kind of album cover that invites you to sit down, close your eyes, and let go for a while.
Zé Ibarra isn’t just creating music. He’s building entire worlds with sound. And I couldn’t be prouder to say he’s doing that as part of our culture. I’m proud to be Brazilian — and I’m proud that a Brazilian artist has made something as beautiful as this.

Faixas como Essa Confusão (com Dora Morelenbaum) e Segredo são joias que brilham. Mas, para mim, Transe teve um impacto diferente. A maneira como as cordas de Jaques Morelenbaum se entrelaçam com os vocais intensos do Zé? É alquimia cinematográfica pura.
E a parte visual? Só pela capa já dá para perceber o cuidado. É acolhedora, texturizada e artística — aquele tipo de capa que convida você a sentar, fechar os olhos e se deixar levar.
Zé Ibarra não está só fazendo música. Ele está construindo mundos inteiros com som. E eu não poderia estar mais orgulhoso de dizer que ele faz isso como parte da nossa cultura. Tenho orgulho de ser brasileiro — e tenho orgulho que um artista brasileiro tenha criado algo tão bonito quanto isso.
