Seu novo single, “Incenso de Lavanda”, lançado pelo selo Citrus Music, revela uma Nicolie mais madura, mais ousada e mais íntima — explorando nuances de sexualidade, autoconhecimento e expansão criativa. É uma faixa que marca um passo importante na sua trajetória e confirma aquilo que já era evidente: Nicolie é uma das apostas mais emocionantes da nova geração da MPB contemporânea.
Tivemos a oportunidade de conversar com ela sobre seu percurso como artista, sobre o nascimento de “Incenso de lavanda” e sobre sua experiência criativa ao lado da Citrus Music, uma casa que tem abraçado novas vozes com autenticidade e visão.
Nicolie, você tem apenas 22 anos, mas já traz uma maturidade artística muito evidente. Quais foram os momentos ou experiências que mais moldaram o seu percurso até aqui — desde o teatro até os palcos de concerto e o universo da MPB contemporânea?
Nicolie: Durante minhas graduações tanto produção fonográfica quanto no teatro musical, pude absorver muito sobre o mercado e obras internacionais e nacionais. Acredito que nesse processo criei um afeto e admiração ainda maior pela arte nacional, gerando em mim uma sede de criar e abraçar essa brasilidade.
Seu novo single, “Incenso de lavanda”, revela uma versão mais sofisticada e sensorial sua. Em que momento você percebeu que estava pronta para explorar temas como sexualidade, autoconhecimento e esse universo mais íntimo em sua música?
Nicolie: Comecei a compor com 12 anos, a princípio minhas letras eram todas como um diário das minhas paixões e emoções. Na pandemia comecei a explorar letras com assuntos que eu ouvia nas notícias que me moviam a tentar me posicionar do jeito que dava. Já na faculdade comecei a explorar outros caminhos que pelo tabu era algo que eu tinha um pouco de vergonha. No entanto minhas maiores referências na música são mulheres empoderadas cheias de si e certas do que querem, então me inspirei nelas e busquei explorar outros caminhos em mim que ainda trouxessem a minha verdade.
“Incenso de lavanda” mistura elementos orgânicos com texturas modernas, criando um clima quase etéreo. Como nasceu essa estética sonora? Foi um processo intuitivo ou algo que você e a equipe imaginaram desde o início?
Nicolie: Sempre fui muito apaixonada pelo R&B e seus diversos elementos na musicalidade, meu sonho era trazer isso nas minhas músicas. Unindo a organicidade do R&B ao sensorial que é algo que me move muito na música, nasce Incenso de Lavanda.
Tudo começa em um quarto, um incenso de lavanda aceso, três músicos e uma inspiração sem norte. A melodia foi surgindo, em seguida esboços de letra e da forma mais clichê e orgânica nasce a demo. Que pra versão final ainda houve muitas mudanças. Mas incrivelmente o processo inteiro até o fim das gravações oficiais, tudo muito fluído, sempre deixando claro aos meus parceiros músicos e produtores do projeto que queria que eles sentissem o que eles achavam que precisava, e de forma intuitiva esse projeto lindo ganhou vida.
Você trabalha com o selo Citrus Music, que vem se tornando um espaço importante para novas vozes da música brasileira. Como é essa parceria? De que forma a Citrus influencia — ou potencializa — seu processo criativo?
Nicolie: Desde nossa primeira conversa estiveram bem interessados no meu trabalho e vice versa. É muito massa a forma que a gente se entende bem e eles estão sempre apoiando e incentivando os novos projetos e pensando junto comigo como podemos crescer nesses projetos.
Suas músicas sempre carregam sentimentos difíceis de nomear, como se você traduzisse pequenas vulnerabilidades do cotidiano. Como funciona o seu processo de composição? Você começa pela palavra, pela sensação, pela melodia… ou tudo nasce ao mesmo tempo?
Nicolie: Eu geralmente opto pela sensação primeiro da fome de colocar que me enche tanto que preciso colocar pra fora de alguma forma, sendo ela geralmente melodias e letras, mas não necessariamente com uma ordem. O que surge primeiro abre caminho para o resto.
Porém, como nem tudo na vida são flores hahaha quando não desce em mim esse “santo da inspiração”, geralmente pego temas anotados no bloco de notas/caderno, penso em temas diversos que gostaria de falar sobre, pego meu caderno de composição, vou pra qualquer instrumento que tenho perto e começo a esboçar literalmente qualquer coisa, até que saia algo que me agrade. Depois gravo e mostro pras pessoas com quem estou trabalhando no projeto, que no caso atualmente seriam os meninos da anteontem que me produziram nesses dois singles que lancei.
Nos seus últimos lançamentos — de “Vida Leve” a “Incenso” — percebemos um crescimento claro, não só vocal, mas emocional e estético. Que tipo de artista você sente que está se tornando neste momento da sua vida?
Nicolie: Me agrada muito a ideia de o artista ser algo fluido e nada concreto. Gosto de pensar em evoluir tecnicamente sempre, ampliar os conhecimentos e horizontes. Ao mesmo tempo que quero explorar gêneros e vibes diferentes. Posso dizer que sinto que estou me permitindo explorar um pouco destas possibilidades, mas principalmente buscando me tornar uma artista referência para aqueles que buscam sentir e mergulhar fundo nas melodias, arranjos vocais e acessar uma experiência quase que sinestésica. Acho que o teatro em mim diz muito a respeito dessa parte.
O que podemos esperar do seu próximo capítulo? Há um novo projeto, EP ou álbum em construção? Ou você prefere deixar que as próximas músicas surjam de forma orgânica, como incensos que queimam no tempo certo?
Nicolie: Diria que podem esperar algo diferente. Tenho alguns projetos na gaveta pedindo pra nascer, mas sem conexão alguma com as anteriores. Quero que conheçam um pouquinho mais de mim antes do meu primeiro EP. E espero que gostem do que tem por vir…

Singer and songwriter Nicolie Zalin is one of those rare artists who arrive quietly yet leave a lasting imprint. At just 22 years old, she has already built a universe where delicacy and depth coexist effortlessly. With a background in theatre and a uniquely intuitive sensitivity, her songs translate complex, almost unnameable emotions into honest lyrics, memorable melodies, and carefully crafted productions that blend organic warmth with modern textures.
Her new single, “Incenso,” released through Citrus Music, reveals a more mature, intimate and daring version of Nicolie — exploring nuances of sexuality, self-discovery and creative expansion. It marks a significant step in her journey and reinforces what has been clear from the start: Nicolie is one of the most promising voices in the new generation of contemporary Brazilian music.
We had the opportunity to ask her a few questions about her artistic path, the creation of “Incenso,” and her experience working with Citrus Music, a label that has been embracing new voices with vision and authenticity.
Nicolie, you’re only 22, yet you already carry a very evident artistic maturity. Which moments or experiences have shaped your journey the most so far — from theatre to concert stages and the world of contemporary MPB?
Nicolie: During my degrees in both Music Production and Musical Theatre, I was able to absorb a great deal about the industry, as well as international and national works. I believe that, throughout this process, I developed an even deeper affection and admiration for Brazilian art, which sparked in me a desire to create and to embrace this sense of brasilidade.
Your new single, “Incenso”, reveals a more sophisticated and sensorial side of you. At what point did you feel ready to explore themes such as sexuality, self-knowledge and this more intimate world within your music?
Nicolie: I began writing songs at the age of 12, and at first my lyrics read very much like a diary of my crushes and emotions. During the pandemic, I started exploring subjects I heard about in the news — things that moved me to take a stand in whatever way I could. Once I was at university, I ventured into other themes which, because they were still considered taboo, made me feel somewhat embarrassed. However, my biggest musical references are empowered women — full of themselves in the best sense, and very certain of what they want. So I drew inspiration from them and allowed myself to explore different paths within me, as long as they still reflected my truth.
“Incenso” blends organic elements with modern textures, creating an almost ethereal atmosphere. How did this sonic aesthetic come to life? Was it an intuitive process, or something you and your team envisioned from the very beginning?
Nicolie: I’ve always been deeply passionate about R&B and the many elements within its musicality; it was my dream to bring that influence into my own songs. By merging the organic feel of R&B with the sensorial aspect — something that moves me greatly in music — Incenso de Lavanda was born.
It all began in a bedroom: a lavender incense burning, three musicians, and a spark of inspiration without direction. The melody came first, followed by fragments of lyrics, and in the most cliché and organic way, the demo was created. The final version went through many changes, of course. But incredibly, the entire process — right up to the official recordings — flowed very naturally. I always made it clear to my fellow musicians and producers that I wanted them to feel what the song needed. And through this intuitive approach, this beautiful project came to life.
You work with the Citrus Music label, which is becoming an important space for new voices in Brazilian music. What is this partnership like? How does Citrus influence — or enhance — your creative process?
Nicolie: From our very first conversation, they showed genuine interest in my work — and the feeling was mutual. It’s amazing how well we understand each other, and they’re always supporting and encouraging new projects, thinking together with me about how we can make them grow.
Your songs often carry feelings that are difficult to name, as though you translate small, everyday vulnerabilities. What is your songwriting process like? Do you begin with words, a sensation, a melody… or does everything arrive at once?
Nicolie: I usually begin with the sensation — that hunger to express something that fills me so much I need to let it out somehow. This usually takes the form of melodies and lyrics, but not necessarily in a set order. Whatever comes first paves the way for the rest.
However, as not everything in life is roses (haha), when this “saint of inspiration” doesn’t come to me, I usually look through themes I’ve noted down in my phone or in a notebook. I think of topics I’d like to talk about, grab my songwriting notebook, go to whichever instrument is nearby and start sketching literally anything — until something pleasing appears. Then I record it and show it to the people I’m working with, who at the moment are the lads from Anteontem, the producers of the two singles I’ve released.
In your recent releases — from “Vida Leve” to “Incenso” — we notice clear growth, not only vocally but also emotionally and aesthetically. What kind of artist do you feel you are becoming at this stage of your life?
Nicolie: I really like the idea of the artist being something fluid, never set in stone. I enjoy the thought of constantly improving technically and broadening my knowledge and horizons, while also exploring different genres and vibes. I feel that I’m allowing myself to explore some of these possibilities, but above all, I’m seeking to become an artist of reference for those who want to feel deeply — to dive into melodies and vocal arrangements and access an almost synaesthetic experience. I think my theatre background speaks volumes in that sense.
What can we expect from your next chapter? Is there a new project, EP or album in the making? Or do you prefer to let the next songs emerge organically, like incense that burns at the right moment?
Nicolie: I’d say you can expect something different. I have a few projects waiting to be born, though they’re not necessarily connected to the previous ones. I want people to get to know a little more of me before my first EP. And I hope they enjoy what’s coming…
