Being on the other side of the world, where I was born and haven’t returned to in 30 years, feels magical. There are just a few words to describe the emotions I experienced in my hometown, Rio de Janeiro.

It’s incredible to realise that I never indeed left it, and the last time I visited was in June 1995. The city has undoubtedly changed; as a child, it seemed enormous, and now it appears infinite, filled with the same smells, sounds, and colours.

Being a Carioca—someone born in Rio de Janeiro—is the essence of Brazil. Many know that one of my favourite things to do is capture moments through photography. This time, I used a mix of a Casio Exilim from the early 2000s and a Campsnap camera.

These photos are part of a Divergent Beats project called “Light Tropical.” I can’t share more just yet, so stay tuned!
